A Special Board of Studies meeting was held on February 1 2018 to welcome the incoming Dean of the School of Education, Dr. Bentry Nkhata. The outgoing Dean, Dr. Oswell C. He also mention that meetings have been held to discuss and prepare for the introduction of University Colleges.

In his farewell remarks, Dr. Chakulimba highlighted the successes and failures of the school. Among the many successes, he referred to the increase in the number of doctoral and master's students that have graduated from the school during his deanship. He also noted the successful organisation of international conferences by the school. In addition, he highlighted the fact that on several occassions, the School of Education was nominated as the cleanest school. In his welcome remarks to the dean, Dr. Chakulimba was quick to mention that for the first in the history of the school, the incoming Dean, Dr. Nkhata, went unopposed.

In his remarks as the incoming Dean, Dr. Nkhata stated that the focus during his tenure will be to reposition the school in research and teaching excellence by sourcing for more research funding and, by providing more support to postgraduate students.
